About our gallery

Maansuk Gallery

MAANSUK Gallery is born as an extension of an artist’s creative universe. The gallery is grounded in the belief that the artist is not only a creator, but also a researcher, one who explores materials, cultures, histories, and ideas in search of deeper meaning. MAANSUK presents a curated selection of antiques and artworks, approached not as decorative objects, but as living evidence of how people have lived, crafted, and expressed themselves across time. These pieces shape the artist-researcher essence that defines the gallery, offering context, inspiration, and a sense of cultural continuity. In this way, MAANSUK becomes a window to the undiscovered, a space where artistic creation and material heritage meet. Through the dialogue between contemporary works and antiques, the gallery reveals new perspectives, brings forward overlooked narratives, and expands the conversation around culture, craft, and creative practice.

THE FOUNDER

Meet our founder, curator, and artist, Mersuka Dopazo. Born in Las Palmas, Spain, Mersuka was shaped early by a life immersed in visual culture, storytelling, and the quiet rituals of making. From the very beginning, she experienced the world as an artist, observing closely, absorbing details, and translating lived experience into form, color, and texture. Art was never a decision, but a necessity to live. Travel has been central to Mersuka’s life for as long as she can remember. Growing up between cultures and continuing to move across continents throughout her life, she has spent years immersed in different places, traditions, and ways of living. These journeys profoundly shaped her view of art, not as something fixed or isolated, but as something deeply connected to daily life, heritage, and human expression. The landscapes she encountered, the people she met, and the objects she collected along the way became part of her creative universe. Her artistic practice is rooted in this continuous movement and curiosity. Mersuka moves fluidly between disciplines, cultures, and mediums, guided by exploration rather than convention.  As both artist and curator, Mersuka approaches creation as investigation. She is drawn to materials that carry memory and history, often working with textiles, antiques, and artifacts that bear traces of past lives. Her work reflects a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship, paired with a contemporary sensibility that recontextualizes heritage within the present moment. This philosophy extends naturally into the foundation of MAANSUK Gallery, conceived as an extension of her creative universe. The gallery embodies her belief that artists are also researchers, individuals who travel through ideas, cultures, and histories in order to reveal new perspectives. As curator, Mersuka brings together contemporary works and historical objects, allowing them to exist in dialogue rather than hierarchy. Through her art and curatorial vision, Mersuka Dopazo invites audiences to slow down and look closely. Her work does not aim for spectacle, but for connection, between past and present, object and story, culture and identity. Her artworks have been exhibited all over the world, represented by Rebecca Hossack Gallery and Opera Gallery, her universe continues to unfold as a thoughtful dialogue between the world she has seen and the worlds she creates.

THE DIRECTOR

Born in South Borneo, Aidan Mahardika has always carried a strong sense of discovery and exploration, with art at the center of his curiosity. From an early age, his fascination with ancient antiquities sparked an ambition to become a museum curator, shaping his enduring interest in cultural history and material heritage. After completing his degree in International Relations, Aidan relocated to Bali, where he was deeply inspired by the island’s way of life — particularly the seamless integration of art into architecture, ritual, and everyday living. This experience profoundly shaped his curatorial perspective and solidified his commitment to working within the arts. Driven by this passion, Aidan embarked on his first curatorial venture through an online publication titled Archive Particular, which explored overlooked objects, narratives, and cultural expressions. He later founded Garam Studio, a jewelry brand centered around ethically sourced Bornean diamonds, further reflecting his dedication to responsible sourcing and craftsmanship. Following periods spent in Melbourne and London, Aidan returned to Bali, where he began his directorial role as Artistic Director of MAANSUK Gallery. In this position, he brings Mersuka Dopazo’s vision to life, guiding the gallery’s curatorial direction and bridging contemporary artistic practice with cultural heritage.
